The Mosaic Project
The goal of Mosaic is to work toward a peaceful future by uniting children of diverse backgrounds and providing them with essential community building skills. Their primary program is done in a four day immersive overnight camping experience for Bay Area 4th and 5th graders. Through this experience, they learn about empathy building, utilizing music, art, writing, play, and drama to address issues of diversity and conflict resolution.
The Mosaic experience does not end when the children leave camp. On the last day they write a letter to their 15 year-old self which they receive 5 years later. Included with that letter is a follow up survey to see if and how Mosaic has continued to impact their lives. Inservices are also done in the classroom setting and general assemblies are held for all students twice a year to reinforce
Mosaic also serves young adults by helping them build leadership skills, educators invested in constructing inclusive school communities and companies and organizations seeking to create an inclusive work environment.
